River Church began as a prayer meeting in the home of Rev. & Mrs. B.R. Hinkle in June of 1975. In February of 1983, Sis. Hinkle went to be with the Lord, and Rev. Hinkle took a leave of absence before going to the Philippines as a missionary. In July of 1983 the Lord spoke to Rev. Sam Hinkle, the son of Rev. B.R. Hinkle, to “go complete the work.” He and Denise resigned a church in Texas to come and obey the Lord.
Pastors Sam & Denise Hinkle held their first services in September of 1983. The “humble beginnings” took place at 336 East Jackson street in Warsaw, MO with 15 people in attendance. (That included Pastor Sam, Denise, and their 2-year old son, Joel.)
On Easter of 1988, the church “crossed over” to the Truman Marine Building on Highway 7, where services were held for two years. The building served its purpose, as the church grew.
In September of 1989, land was purchased on Highway 65 and construction of the new church began. Pastor Sam led the team of men who worked together to build the new sanctuary, and the ladies provided the meals to keep the workers going! The first service was held on Easter of 1990, with a concrete floor and plastic chairs. Pews and carpeting soon arrived to complete the new building.
In 1995, the annex building was added, providing a gymnasium and more classrooms. The annex was a God-sent miracle and financial blessing! Again, the church people did most of the work in finishing the interior of the multi-purpose building!
In June of 2005, the church purchased more land for future expansion. July of 2005 began the “transformation” of the gymnasium into our new sanctuary, as we had out-grown our existing sanctuary.
Future plans include a new sanctuary, classrooms, and a campground. As God guides, He will also provide! We invite you to join us in spreading the GOOD NEWS of Jesus Christ to Warsaw. . .and around the world! Welcome to the River!
